Scotch Plains Business & Professional Association History
  The SPBPA was started in August of 1994 by Scotch Plains business owner & resident Ray Pardon. At that time there was not any active business organization in town and the need for one was identified by the Downtown Business Alliance which was a Township committee appointed by the Mayor.

  At its first meeting in August of 1994, 9 individuals attended. Today the SPBPA has over 100 members. The association was formerly set up as a non-profit organization in 1995 and operates as such with an 11 member elected board of directors.

  Since its inception the SPBPA has raised through dues, donations & fund raising activities over $100,000 which has been reinvested in our community in the following ways:
  • Organized from 1994-2002, the Halloween Window Painting Contests.
  • Donated in 1996 over 50 Flower Planters in Towne Centre.
  • Produced, with DECA in 1997, a Town Directory distributed to all homes in Scotch Plains.
  • Created in 1998 a Scholarship Fund for SPF High School graduates.
  • Sponsored the Annual Antique Car Show 1995-2003.
  • Sponsors the New Jersey Farmers Market from June through November each year.
  • Purchased, in equal partnership with the Township, the Towne Centre banners in 1998.
  • Organizes the annual Holiday Celebrations.
  • Issues newsletters distributed to all members and many non-member businesses listed on the website.
  • Monthly network meetings to keep the business community informed of township activities and issues.
The SPBPA thanks you for your support of our local business men and women and ask for your continued support as we look forward to making a stronger business community which can continue to contribute to making Scotch Plains a better community for us all to live in.
